Subhashita and Meaning

भाषासु मुख्या मधुरा दिव्या गीर्वाणभारती
तस्यां हि काव्यम् मधुरं तस्मादपि सुभाषितम्
Among languages, samskrutam is the most important, pleasant and divine. In that, poetry is the sweetest. Even in that, 'subhAshita' is most charming.
आचार्यात् पादमादत्ते पादं शिष्यः स्वमेधया |
पादं सब्रह्मचारिभ्यः पादं कालेन पच्यते ॥  
- महाभारत, उद्योगपर्व
A (student acquires a) quarter from the teacher, a quarter from his own intelligence, a quarter from classmates, a quarter is digested in time.
दृष्टिपूतं न्यासेत्पादं वस्त्रपूतं पिबेज्जलम्
शास्त्रपूतं वदेद्वाक्यं मनः पूतं समाचरेत्- चाणक्य नीति
Clear the path through sight; filter drinking water through a cloth; purify speech through knowledge of scriptures; cleanse actions through thought.
